Ean and Dinosaurs

Does every kid go through a dinosaur phase? I know all of mine did. Now it's Ean's turn to go dino-crazy.
It started off when he insisted on watching 'Sea Monsters' daily. Then we got him another DVD from the Walking with Dinosaurs series.
Meat-eaters vs Plant-eaters.
Ean would line up the plant-eaters, ready to launch an attack on the meat-eaters.
The meat-eaters would always be the villians and would never be able to defeat the plant-eaters who would relentlessly cripple the sharp-tooths with either their spiked, whip or club tails.
Dino puzzle
I thought it would be a good idea to take him to the dinosaur exhibit at the National Science Centre. But once again I assumed wrongly. Han refused to enter the exhibition hall the moment he saw the black drapes he had to walk through. "Scary!" he said.
I managed to coax him in but Han managed to get the boys' spooked.
Ean was eager at first but the sight of his brother's ashen face and the eerie growls emitted by the dimly lit robotic dinosaurs, soon got all 3 boys clinging to me for dear life.
JY coaxed the boys to release their stranglehold on me. She held their hands and told me "They have cold clammy hands, Mom"
Han and Fai looked around to ensure the dinosaurs did not make any sudden movements.
It was more House of Horrors than an educational dino exhibit.
Nice bones. If only they were real.
DH took the brood  to Dinoland in Gentings a few days later while I had a breather and caught a movie with Meme. The boys said it was better than the dinosaurs in Science Centre and they weren't nearly as terrified this time around.
I'm glad they had a good time with their father .
I had a good time too, watching Spidey in 3D while Meme snoozed in my arms :)

Ean and the Piano 11Feb2011

The moment Ean saw the piano he wanted to sit on its bench. He fiddled some knobs, flipped the music book and went on to create a tune that sounded vaguely like something out of 'The Phantom of the Opera'
He would press press a key with his index finger and pause a while to concentrate on the tune that it emits than try out another key.

Karen Cuppy Cake booth Day 2 @Shangri-la KL 11Dec2010

JY was still busy preparing until 2am, ensuring everything is up to mark. Caryn slept over and she would be with JY for day 2 @ Shangri-la. I woke the girls up at 6.30am and was out the door by 8am. We didn't want to miss the free buffet spread that was waiting for us.
Buttery croissants stuffed with lettuce, tomato and ham, Boxing chicken, fried wantan...Yum!

A Rotarian contemplating the cakes.
The highlight of the day was meeting IYE exchange student, Machika. She stays with her host family in Temerloh and has been in Malaysia for 3 months. She came not speaking a single word of English and can now speak pretty fluently. She is such a fast learner. She attends a Malay national school in Temerloh and is in Form 4. She told JY that school in Japan is full of fun and she looks forward to school everyday although school lasts 12 hours daily!
I must quiz her about this when I meet her next.
JY says she speaks like Japanese Anime. She is simply adorable.
I have put in a request to host her for a week or two. I hope RC Temerloh grants my request. Fingers crossed.
Last year we had Nikita from India with us for 2 days and we had a blast with her. Taking her on a whirlwind tour of Port Dickson and KL. JY did baking and cupcake decorating with her as well.

Kent signed me up for the Spouses' Programme. Oh boy!
Make-up! How to clean your face, moisturise properly, apply foundation blah, blah..
Ean was with me. Here he is examining a brush.

Here he is putting on foundation. I think he learnt more than I did. Through out the workshop I felt like I was all thumbs. My mascara was smudgy, my foundation patchy....this is hard work. I couldn't get the hang of it.

A photographer couldn't resist his charms and took a few snaps of him.
I came out of the workshop with smoky eyes and red lips and smooth flawless skin.
4 hours to get that effect.
1 hour to take everything off!
5 hours of my life gone. Poof!

I am hopeless with directions. So Kent drew out a map for me on a piece of paper napkin. From Shangri-la to Parliament with another piece to Federal Highway. JY was the navigator and Ean's entertainer.
After 10 minutes of leaving the hotel , I took a wrong turn and I found myself in front of the Weld.
Ooops!
Can throw the map away.
Now it was live feed directions using the handphone. It is useful having a husband with built in GPS.
We got stuck in the Saturday crawl in front of Sungei Wang Plaza.
Ean was busy entertaining JY with stories of elephants falling off trees and big fishes on the road. He was hilarious.
We got home in 1 hour.
Phew!

Potty headache

It was a new roll of toilet paper.
I was preparing dinner.
Ean took the opportunity to fill the potty.
I stopped Fai and Han from flushing in the nick of time. Phew!

Death of a Smiley Red Ball 19 March 2010

Smiley blue ball was lost at sea.
Ean got another blue ball.
Blue ball without a face was not as good to Ean.
Today we bought a smiley red ball.
Ean was delighted.

Smiley red ball getting married to blue ball. Fai put them together and plucked some petra for smiley red ball.

Smiley Red ball rolled into Uncle Singh's bonfire and part of the ball melted. Jianyi tried to patch the ball with some masking tape.
However we were not meant to have a Smiley ball with us. Red deflated......

Now blue ball is alone.....

Lost in TTDI Monday 8 March 2010

I have been invited to this park a couple of times. It is a popular meeting place; where kids can wade in the stream, scoop up a few fishes while the parents get to do some socializing. So when Wai Leng invited me to a gathering in TTDI Park, I just had to go.
Here was the plan:
Step 1 get the boys to sleep early on Sunday.

Step 2: Get the boys to wake up early on Monday. Preferably by 730am.This was because Kent had a full schedule planned for the day and since he is the one with the car. We would have to fit ourselves into his schedule.

Well, Step 1 failed as the boys were still bouncing off the bedroom walls at 10.30pm. However i did manage to get them to settle down by 10.45 and they were asleep not long after.
Step 2 failed as well, as they were still asleep at 7.30am BUT they did manage to wake up by 8.15. However by that time Kent was long gone :(

Luck was on our side that day. (or so I thought) Kent called to say that he could drop us at TTDI.

Problem : Which park in TTDI?

Solution: ASK

So I asked WL. She seemed unsure.
So I asked S. She was very clear. (or so I thought)

We came to a guard house. We saw a road leading up a hill. We thought the park must be just after the bend.
Bend after bend after bend.

We passed a man training for a marathon (he had on a shirt with 'marathon' printed on it) .

We were ambushed by macaques. 3 females with their babies clinging to them. They stared blankly at me and started advancing towards us when I said "Shoo! Shoo!" I was a little scared. Then Han roared "RUUUUURRRRR!!!!" Wolverine-style. That scared them off. Phew!
Han was proud of himself for saving us.

A nice couple smiled and said this hill has a lot of monkeys, you might want to try the park with a nice stream"

Me: This doesn't lead to the park with the stream???

Couple: No. This is the jogging track. It loops back here. (we were at the peak!) To get to the other park. Go back to Trellises.......

Walking down the hill, we promised ourselves BR icecream as a reward. The gradient was steep. We didn't realise this on the way up. My kids were great sports. The boys didn't complain. JY wished she stayed home but she kept on going good-naturedly. Ean slept in my arms.

I called S up and told her we were lost when we reached the guardhouse at the base of the hill. KV came to our rescue.
He drove us to the right park.

There were 3 mothers' group assemled there. USJ homeschool group, IBU and Japanese Mothers.

I met up with a few lovely mommies. Ann, Liani, Sabrina, Latifah, WL and S.

Fai and Han had a blast with Arian. The stream was shallow. Great for little ones.

The playground was within sight. The park was clean and well-maintained. Landscaping was done well.

JY hung around with the mommies.

A blue ball with a smiley face

Ean has been asking for a "ball-ball". Whenever he spots balls hanging on display, he would point and say "ball! ball!". We were back in PD on for the long Thaipusm-FT day weekend and when we stopped to look at a bicycle for sale, he led Kent to the rubber balls hanging outside a sundry shop and insisted that he get one.

This one year old has great communication skills.

Here's Ean with his blue ball. He could dribble and throw the ball around the garden. He would squeal in delight as he chased it around.

The next day, Fai and Han tried to submerge the ball underwater and they had a hard time doing it. Each time they tried, the ball would rocket out from under their hands with a big swoosh! What physics principle is being applied here? Someone please tell me!!

Success at last.

Now the ball has become Han's egg.

Han says he has laid an egg and is incubating it!

When the ball bounces out of the tub, Han would yell, " My egg! My egg!"

On FT Day, I took the 3 boys down to the beach and we took the blue ball with us. The beach slopes down to the shoreline and before you can say " Get that ball!", Ean's blue ball was swept away by the waves. Fai started crying as he saw the ball bobbing further and further away from the shore. Ean kept pointing at the ball and saying "ball-ball, ball-ball"

Bye Smiley Blue Ball! We hope a kid as much fun with you as we did.

On the way back from PD, Fai said he has an idea! He couldn't wait to get back home. The moment he reached Jln Carey, he raced to the playroom and came out with his creation...

Fai with his replica of Ean's blue ball. Made from plastic wrap, paper and lots of masking tap. He drew a smiley face and coloured it blue with crayons.

He also drew a potrait of opposites

Ean sad

Ean happy

surrounded by Blue smiley balls falling from the sky

As soon as Ean got up from his nap, Fai presented him with his blue ball. unfortunately, Ean had difficulty accepting the replica as a substitute for his beloved blue ball.
